The board has been
charged with the following duties:
1)
Education of the general public regarding proper planting,
pruning and care
All too often, improperly executed landscaping and maintenance plans
lead to unsightly and permanently damaged trees and plants. The
Richmond Tree Advisory Board seeks to supply information and advice
on trees and planting areas, both public and private. Regularly
produced informational brochures will be part of this effort. Also,
this Tree Advisory Board website will provide useful tips and
direct users to other informational web links.
2)
Oversight and management of current urban forestry
plan
The board will work with the mayor, city commission and
other interested individuals to help maintain our current urban
forest areas.
3)
Planning and fund acquisition for future projects
The Richmond Tree Advisory Board will work with city officials to
formulate a priority list and obtain funds and grant money for
selected projects. Listings of recommended species appropriate for
our area will be part of this effort. There will be the opportunity
for community input regarding these projects as well.
4)
Public appearances and special events
The Richmond Tree Advisory Board endeavors to raise public
awareness of their mission through public appearances, Arbor Day
celebrations and plantings and other special events. Members and
selected experts may be available for appearances at area schools,
civic organizations and businesses.
5)
Tree Management Ordinance
The ordinance creating the Richmond Tree Advisory Board also sets
out acceptable guidelines for the planting and maintenance of trees
planted in the public right-of way. At the request of the Mayor and
City Commission, the board may investigate, report findings and make
recommendations if it is determined that violations may have
occurred.
